Town of Newburgh Supervisor Gil Piaquadio and the Town Board have a history of supporting alternate school funding. On October 9th, 2018, the Town Board voted unanimously to pass a resolution for Internet Sales Taxes to substdize public school education instead of local property taxes. This resolution is unique as it uses Internet Sales Tax, which is approximately $ 8 billion per year of new revenue for the State.
This resolution was presented to the Orange County Association of Towns for consideration, and was voted on and passed at the October 30th, 2018 Meeting. This resolution will be considered at the New York State Association of Towns in February of 2019.
Supervisor Piaquadio commented, “I want to thank Deputy Supervisor Scott Manley as it was his idea to use the Internet Sales Tax as a funding source. I believe this will be the final ingredient for Albany to consider and adopt the plan.”
