Efforts are underway by Danskammer Energy, LLC to upgrade its Generating Station Site located at 994 River Road in the Town of Newburgh. If Danskammer files a Pre-Application Preliminary Scoping Statement (PSS) with the New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and Environment (Siting Board), Town of Newburgh Supervisor Gil Piaquadio and Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus will only have 15 days from the receipt of notification of this filing to each nominate four candidates for consideration to serve as ad hoc public members to the Siting Board.
The Siting Board is a New York State governmental entity within the Department of Public Service. The Board consists of five permanent members and two ad hoc public members. Functions include reviewing applications and issuing certificates authorizing the construction and operation of major electric generating facilities.
To be eligible to become an ad hoc public member, a person must be 18 years of age or older; a citizen of the United States; be a resident of New York State; a resident of the municipality in which the facility is proposed to be located; not hold another state or local office; and not retain or hold any official relation to, or any securities of, any electric utility corporation operating in the State or proposed for operation in the State, any affiliate thereof or any other company, firm, partnership, corporation, associate or joint-stock association that my appear before the Siting Board, nor shall the person have been a director, officer or, within the previous ten years, an employee thereof. Applicants for this pier diem Position must have transportation and free during the day to travel to Albany N.Y. for certain meetings. The candidates chosen will receive a stipend and travel expense when the board meets.
